Chaiiwala

The rapid roll out of Indian street food and tea shop, Chiiawala, is gathering pace as the brand surpasses the 100 outlet mark, choosing Harled as its lighting designer for its most recent ventures.

Chaiiwala’s story began almost a century ago on the streets of Delhi, with forefathers of the current founders beginning their business with one small street stall selling tea. Passed through generations, Chiiawala as we know it today was established in 2015 in Leicester, gaining a cult following with its fusion of authentic Indian street food with a Western twist.

The Harled team have to date supported the construction and fit out teams, appointed by the hospitality giant at new tea shops in Bolton, Preston and Rotherham. The bold, modern and bright aesthetics of the brands interior is married with muted tones and warm lighting, creating a light and airy environment where customers can relax and enjoy a cup of the brand’s signature karak chaii, along with a bite.

The modernist interior design was part influenced by roadside Indian shacks serving the popular South Asian tea. To help recreate this ambience, some 50 2300-kelvin squirrel cage pendants where installed at various heights across the site, enhancing the signature style through stunning fixtures and subtle lighting.
